This play is dedicated to Jack & Frances Strait, grandparents of the playwright who inspired the characters of Sylvia and Noyce. The play was written to provide an answer to Grandpa Jack’s question, “What do you have to write about?” in 1993, when Angeline told him she was switching majors from Journalism to English/Creative Writing. The play is a comedy, with elements borrowed from Shakespeare and Noises Off, and an organist at the Cow Palace south of Tucson mixed in — all in honor of Fran and Jack favorites from the theatre. The Straits laughed throughout the entire play. For the record, Frances was a staunch defender of preserving the saguaros of Tucson. Jack - with pride - took credit for provoking the creation of FISH IN THE DESERT. Their first great-grandchild Jack was born midway through the writing of the script.
